Welcome

Congratulations, you have successfully navigated to the Bright Light Transfers web log! Here you will find a plethora of information on 8mm & Super 8 digital film transfers, as well as exciting posts on the small format filmmaking community in the greater Vancouver/Victoria region.

First, a little bit about Bright Light

Bright Light Transfers offers a unique frame-by-frame transfer of 8mm & Super 8 film formats to digital video. Each frame of film is lovingly converted to digital video using a system specifically built for film telecine. The film is hand-cleaned with special anti-static film cleaner to remove the dirt/dust/hair that can collect on film that may have been living in a closet for 20 years. The film is then captured frame-by-frame to a quicktime video format, and brought into Final Cut Pro for further post production. The service includes basic colour correction, editing, and DVD creation (including custom DVD menus). As well as the DVD, Bright Light Transfers also includes uncompressed quicktime video files so clients may import them into their own editing software (iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, etc.), and edit their home movies and create their own custom DVDs.

Bright Light Transfers has over 4 years of film transfer experience, including digitizing private home movies, original short films, feature films, corporate films, and archiving footage from cultural museums.

I am currently working on a website which will detail more of my services and pricing guide. As of this date I am only offering standard definition transfers, but I am working towards upgrading to HD. In the meantime, anyone who is interested in my film transfer services may contact me directly by email for information on my prices.

This blog will feature sample pictures and short sample videos of some of the projects I have worked on, my own Super 8 film projects, and projects by other Super 8 filmmakers . I will also feature links to film-related resources. I invite anyone who is interested in small format filmmaking to submit links to their own films so they may be featured here.

Thanks for checking out my blog, and happy shooting.

Cheers, Kevin Scromeda
